About Me.

Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Without them we would not exist. Volunteer Roles

Registration

They register clients new to Tap-in and clients returning for food and other services. Volunteers for this position should have good public relation skills, a respect for confidentiality, and know how to use a computer. 

Food Pantry

They receive, sort and inspect food donations. They ensure that shelves are stocked, assemble food bags and give food and supplies to clients. It is recommended for individuals with a pleasant demeanor!

Food Supply

They pick up food purchases and /or unload Rhode Island Community Food Bank (RICFB) truck deliveries. Some lifting is required for this position.

Drivers

Are driving food to our clients as well as taking clients to medical appointments. This is a flexible volunteer position as volunteers can state when they are available and where they are willing to drive. Drivers must provide current copies of their drivers license and automobile insurance before being accepted into the position.

House wears Volunteer

These volunteers receive donations of household items and helping to track, organize, and stock shelves. 

Student Volunteers

High school and College students are welcome to volunteer at Tap-in during vacation. They are asked to help with various tasks. This is a good introduction to the work of Tap-In and volunteerism!

Special Projects

From time to time, we need additional volunteers to help with our special programs and the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive. Volunteer opportunities are wide ranging including coordination of programs, purchasing of items, organization of events or transportation of donations, etc.

Specialists

Volunteers with expertise in various areas contribute their time and talent toward grant writing, technology, finances, and communications.

Buyer

Regularly shops for linens, housewares, food, and other items needed for Tap-In clients and programs.

Leadership Positions

To function effectively, Tap-In needs volunteers who are ready to take on leadership roles and to be members of the board, executive committee, directors of programs or coordinators of events. These volunteers are required to assume responsibilities and lead other volunteers.

Hours of Operation:

Monday to Friday: 9 –12 pm

Thursdays: 4–7 pm
