Last holiday season, Tap-In received a welcome boost with a $12,025 grant in gift cards from Shaw's and Star Market's Holiday Nourishing Neighbors Community Relief Initiative. This contribution enabled Tap-In to support families and individuals in need across Barrington, Bristol, East Providence, and Warren, offering them the means to buy essentials for a holiday dinner.
Working with Karen Medeiros, Shaw's Barrington Store Director, Tap-In has long been active in raising funds to assist local families during the holiday season. This year, the gift cards provided by Shaw's and Star Market allowed Tap-In to directly help those in need, ensuring they could enjoy a holiday meal.
In addition to the Nourishing Neighbors initiative, Shaw's significantly contributes to Tap-In's efforts on a weekly basis. Each week, a volunteer collects 400-600 pounds of food, including refrigerated and frozen items, produce, and other essential goods. This program, which began in February 2023, has been a great success, providing substantial support to those we serve.
Starting now, this valuable food assistance will be available twice a week, further enhancing our ability to meet the community's needs. Additionally, Shaw's has placed a donation bin in the store, encouraging customers to contribute food items. This ongoing support from Shaw's is incredibly important, and we are eager to share with the town just how much they contribute to our cause.
